Qualcomm in Smartphone Pact

In an intriguing and very interesting move Microsoft has signed a deal with Qualcomm, the US chip maker. This will make it easier and quicker to build next-gen smartphones running Microsoft Mobile Windows operating system.

Under the agreement, Qualcomm will build support for the Windows Mobile operating system into its next generation Mobile Station Modem (MSM) chipsets.

Microsoft as of late has been struggling to establish Windows Mobile as one of the leading smartphone operating systems alongside rivals such as Symbian, the Palm operating system and the email centric Blackberry system. The deal with Qualcomm makes a lot of sense as it can signficantly reduce the time it takes to design and develop a new Windows mobile-powered smartphone.
