Basic Phones: Lowest Price vs. Best Price

Good Voice Quality
You can save pennies on a cheap phone, but you'll end up spending more time trying to understand what the other person is saying if the voice quality is not good. It's worse if you're the one making the call, because you're paying for it! The mic also needs to be of good quality, unless you want to keep repeating yourself.

More SMS
If you'll be sending and receiving a whole lot of SMSes, ensure the phone stores more than just 10 or 20. You should probably be looking at a number close to a hundred.

Large Address Book
The SIM card can store only around 250 contacts, so if you're going to be calling a lot more people, then you need to consider a phone that has a good number of contact storage in the phone itself. Some entry level Samsung phones come with 1,000 to 2,000 slots - we think that oughta be enough for anyone!
